Maiorana (also Majorana) is a surname of Southern Italian origin, mostly used in Calabria and Sicily. It originates from a toponym maiurana, in turn from the Latin name of the marjoram herb.[1] The name in both spellings is still used in Italy; the Italian white pages as of 2018 reported 673 entries for Maiorana and 185 entries for Majorana.[2]

The somewhat more widespread surname Maiorano (1082 entries[2]) is possibly a variant, but more likely a habitational name from Maiorano di Monte, a village in Dragoni municipality, Province of Caserta.[1]
