Nyo Nyo Thin

Nyo Nyo Thin (Burmese: ညိုညိုသင်း; born 26 September 1967) is a Burmese lawyer and politician who previously served as a member of parliament in the Yangon Region Hluttaw for Bahan Township № 2 constituency. She is also a director of Yangon Watch organisation.

Early life and education

Nyo Nyo Thin was born on 26 September 1967 in Yangon, Myammar. She enrolled at the Rangoon University in 1983 and graduated with LLM in 1997. She also graduated with Law from Yokohama National University on 30 March 2006.

She was awarded her doctorate in Law from Yokohama National University and did postdoctoral studies at the Peace and Governance Program in Tokyo’s United Nations University.[1]

Political career

Nyo is the former member of the National League for Democracy. Later, she run Independent politician.

In the 2010 Myanmar general election, she contested the Bahan Township № 2 constituency and won a Yangon Region Hluttaw seat.[2]

She gained popularity for her outspoken critiques against the city’s lack of transparency in big projects including the New Yangon City Development and the Dagon City Projects.[3]

In 2015 Myanmar general election, she contesting for House of Representatives seat from Bahan Township constituency, but lost to National League for Democracy Party candidate.[4]

Publishing

Nyo has published widely in scholarly journals and is currently writing articles on the role of international assistance in democracy promotion and on access to gender justice.[5]
